Laŭ la {{W|Klimata_klasifiko_de_Köppen|klasifiko de Köppen}}, la klimato de Ŝanhajo estas humidaj subtropika.
La vintra temperaturo malofte falas sub nulon (kvankam tio eblas, precipe nokte); la somera temperaturo dum la plej varmaj horoj ofte superas 30°C kaj en apartaj jaroj ĝi povas atingi 40°C (la maksimumo estis 40,8°C en aŭgusto 2013). Pluvas en ĉiuj sezonoj, pli abunde somere.
La plej konsilindaj sezonoj por turismaj vizitoj estas printempto kaj aŭtuno.
